psoriasis

Aromatherapy

As an alternative to shampoos (containing coal tar) to treat psoriasis of the scalp, mix 4 drops of aromatic cedar oil 2 and drops  (Juniperus communis) or 1 squeezed lemon juice in one teaspoon of almond or olive  oil. Apply the mixture on your scalp, cover with a shower cap and leave it overnight. In the morning thoroughly wash it with shampoo and rinse. Repeat this three times a week until symptoms are gone. Because some people are sensitive to essential oils, apply a drop of oil on the skin and leave for 30 minutes to make sure you will not see any side-effects.

Climate – Therapy

Healing with climate is based on the idea that certain climatic conditions can help and even cure certain diseases. In psoriasis can help sunny climate. Special institutions of the Israeli Dead Sea or elsewhere for the vacation offer treatment of people suffering from psoriasis and other skin disorders. It seems that the combination of sunlight, rest and mineral baths have beneficial effects on many patients.

Treatment with Medicinal Herbs

The root of the burdock (Arctium lappa), dandelion (Taraxacum officinale) and mahonija (Machonia aquifolium) allegedly help in the abating of the symptoms of psoriasis. One teaspoon of any of the aforementioned dried herbs, put in boiling water and let it boil for 10 minutes. Drain and drink the potion, up to three hot cups a day. You can use a teaspoon and half of the liquid extract of burdock and dandelion daily.

Common evening-primrose oil (Oenothera biennis) can help ease the itching accompanies psoriasis. Some doctors believe that it is equally effective as corticosteroids, and that there are fewer accompanying phenomena, although people with diseased liver and high cholesterol should apply only under medical supervision. Pregnant women should not use this oil because it can affect hormone levels. The recommended dose of two capsules of 500 mg can be costly. Cheaper choice is flax seed oil and borage Borago.

Mix tincture of burdock, skutelarija (Ѕсutellaria lateriflora), sorrel (dock) (Rumex crispus) and  Galium(Galium spp.) in equal parts. Drink one to two tablespoons per day. Or pour a cup of boiling water 1 teaspoon nettle (Urtica dioica) and fresh galium, leave it to rest for 10 minutes, drain the liquid and drink two to three cups a day.

Instead shampoo containing tar can be used dried rosemary (Rosmarinus officinalis) and sage (Salvia officinalis) to rinse hair. Put 30 g of each herb and pour them with half a liter of boiling water and let it rest overnight. Drain the liquid and use it daily to rinse the hair after washing with shampoo.

Homeopathy

Do not select the homeopathic remedy alone to treat chronic systemic disease such as psoriasis. Homeopaths take into account many factors, including the place of inflammation, as well as family history of the disease and reactions to stress of the patient. Homeopaths for treating psoriasis recommend Sulphur, Graphites, Lycopodium and Arsenicum album.

Healing with light

Like some other serious or chronic disorders, psoriasis may respond to treatment with light or phototherapy. The patient is exposed to ultraviolet radiation for some time, in some cases after the use of the drug psoralen. The treatment is repeated several times a week, up to eight treatments per month. While many doctors and patients cite good results, this treatment can cause short- and long-term side-effects. Psoralen is not recommended for pregnant women because of possible danger to the unborn child. Although the treatment with light is equally successful in all patients with psoriasis, it would be good idea that you and your doctor consider this treatment together

Psychosomatic treatment

The skin is our largest organ and often reflects the internal “storms,” so it’s no wonder that many people suffering from psoriasis in the history of the disease have high levels of anxiety, a little self-esteem and symptoms caused by stress. Many psychosomatic techniques help patients in solving psychological roots and consequences of the disease. Especially effective may be hypnotherapy, water visualization and any of the numerous techniques to stay calm, for biofeedback and psychotherapy.

You can learn to relax in different ways, half an hour fast walk every day, hypnosis, in which you focus on stopping the irritation stimuli. If you think internal stress contributes to your illness, the procedures for relaxing should be in your daily schedule.

Nutrition

Fish oil rich in eicosapentaenoic acid (EPA) from fish mackerel, herring and salmon, can help alleviate inflammation and itching. Because enough EPA you can get by eating one kilogram of fish daily, try four times a day to drink one capsule of 1000 mg fish oil containing EPA or a teaspoon of cod per day, which is rich in vitamin A.

Vitamin A plays an important role in the development and maintenance of the skin. When you have an active period of psoriasis, drink for one month (under a medical supervision ) a large dose, up  to 100,000 IU per day, and then continue with a maintenance dose, no more than 50,000 IU per day. It can help you daily drinking of 200-1000 IU of vitamin D. To avoid drinking excessive doses, especially of these fat-soluble vitamins, ask your doctor to monitor your progress. Before giving a large amounts of vitamins to a child, always carefully check the prescribed dose.

A B group vitamin that contains B5 and B1 maintain the skin health. As a means of treating psoriasis, the recommended dose is 50 mg three times a day. Smearing a concentrated cream with vitamin E on top of your skin two or three times a week can prevent skin damage.

To prevent the spread of the disease, have a diet rich in fish and fresh vegetables, low-fat meat and sour fruit.
